Frequently Asked Questions

Q: To which Officer do I direct my questions?

A: Since the two clubs have merged, we have taken the opportunity to divide the responsibilities to ensure that everyone feels that their voices are heard and questions may be answered in a timely manner. Here is a short breakdown of the Officer's Responsibilities. We can be reached by several means all available by clicking Contact Us at the top of the page.

Q: Do Forrest and Kim have any children?
A: We are currently in Phase 2 of our three phase plan. In Phase 1, we adopted three cats. After a few years, two out of the three were still alive, so we moved to Phase 2. Phase 2 involved getting a dog to see if we could keep her alive for three years (human equivalent of having her graduate from high school). Addie just made it to two years old. She is very intrigued with automobile headlights, so she is just an open yard gate away from proving that we are better coaches than would-be parents... If she does make it to 2009, then we may try to find a young human and try to keep him/her alive. UPDATE: It turns out we have entered Phase 3. We are expecting a child in late September.

Q: What are some good snacks to have at a tournament?
A: We always tell our players to "eat like birds" at a tournament. Eat small portions frequently. Click Here for an article from Strength & Conditioning.

Q: What is the difference between National, American, and Select Teams?
A: National Teams are our top teams and they travel the most. The amount of this travel varies based on the age level. The American Teams travel a little less, but in most cases, they have a comparable schedule to the National teams. They get a little less gear in their uniform package (no shoes or kneepads). Select Teams are our semi-travel teams. They all go to one or two out-of-town tournaments, but all these tournaments are within driving distance. Select Teams get a little less gear than the American Teams.

Q: What if my daughter normally has to "play up" an age division because of her birthday, but we would prefer to have her play with her classmates?
A: She does have the option of being "waivered" down to play with her classmates. This is a policy in the North Texas Region that allows up to two players per team to play down one age division for this exact purpose. It is a North Texas Region policy however, thus this arrangement is not recognized or reciprocated by any other Regions. Therefore this player will not be able to participate with the team when they play out of the North Texas Region, including Lone Star. What most people do is to find a club that does stay exclusively in the region.

Q: What if our varsity team is still in the playoffs? Can we still try-out?
A: There are no rules in USA Volleyball, UIL, or TAPPS that prohibit tryouts. Of course no one involved wants a player to be injured at a tryout and miss the culmination of her school season. The best thing for you to do is to notify us that you are wanting to play for Synergy and for which team you are interested. We may be able to evaluate the player at a match. The key is for you to communicate your intentions prior to all the tryouts. A call the day before the tryouts will not give us or you many options. She will still need to be present at the tryout, but participation will be optional. We typically schedule our tryouts on Sunday so that you will have no conflicts.

Q: Regarding Registering On-Line: So I registered on-line with the Region and I received a confirmation e-mail immediately after completing the on-line portion. Does that mean I'm good-to-go?
A: No. The e-mail you are desribing just confirms you sucessfully completed the on-line portion. You'll still need to mail it all in and wait to receive a confirmation e-mail from the Region saying that registration is complete. Print a copy of this confirmation e-mail and take it with you to the tryout.
